So I have some wear on the Grand Marquis's driver seat and arm rest. 79k miles is low for a 22 year old car, but 79k of mostly relatively short old people moving trips means you probably got in and out of the car about as much as most normal people would if they had twice the mileage. The arm rest is the most annoying part (pictured above). It is dry and cracked to the point that is has become abrasive and thus not comfortable if you are driving with bare elbows. Anywho... there's DIY repair kits out there, but I'd like to hear it straight from the Jal-oppo's mouth. Any of them good? Have ye a better idea?

Also, what crackhead at ford thought that light of a carpet would be a good idea?

Leatherique makes some care and repair products that are universally loved. I'd also look in a few pick-a-parts locally. You might find a clean seat there.

Good god their web site sucks. But if I take the time to navigate, it looks promising. Thank you for that.

Most local junk yards I have casually browsed seem to leave interiors rather open to the elements. I have considered swapping the arm rests from passenger to driver side, but not sure if that would actually work, and it would still be messed up on the under side.

1. If you aren't on Grandmarq.net, get your ass over there, we'd love to have you share about your car

2. I don't think you'll find anything to reasonable improve that arm rest. Find something in a junkyard (any seats before 1990 will bolt in) or get it reupholstered, which might not be as pricey as you think.

Contrary to what someone else said, that can all be fixed with a bit of care and patience - and some expensive leather products. The problem is that although I've seen it done on one of those classic car resto shows, I don't remember which one, or what the tips are. If I remember rightly it was mainly combinations of waxes which brought back the surface, maybe with some dye added?

But yeah, knowing it's possible should be half the battle :)

I remember being bored one night and watching a video on youtube of somebody restoring leather seats in some classic car. Unfortunately I can't find it now :\
